We were married young and our first child was born 11 months
after we were married. I had a few complications with that
pregnancy and ended up on bed rest for the last month.
Before our first was a year old we were expecting our
second. The complications were much worse and the doctor
recommended that we not have any more children. We knew we
were having a boy – which meant we would have one of each.
So, we decided to have the TL done during the c-section that
would deliver our son.
It wasn’t long
before I regretted having the TL and really wanted more
children. I knew all the “logical” reasons why we shouldn’t
have any more but I still wanted them.
After we
gave our lives to the Lord, He called us to homeschool our
children. While researching homeschooling on the internet I
ran into the term “quiverfull”. Once I found out what they
were talking about (letting God plan their family size) I
was curious. I kept searching and clicking link after link
until I ended up at Blessed Arrows website.
I knew what
we had done was wrong and wanted to fix it right away. Dan,
however, was not convinced. We did a lot of studying,
praying and searching. One night the Lord opened his eyes
while we were discussing something totally unrelated. We
knew we had taken something that worked just as God had
intended it to work and broken it so that we could have what
we wanted rather than what HE wanted. We prayed for
forgiveness and promised to restore to God what should have
been His from the beginning.
Our Tubal
Reversal Testimony
We traveled to Rio Bravo, Mexico for a reversal surgery on
August 25, 2003. We had planned and waited for this day for
two years. We had even scheduled an appointment to have the
surgery done a year before but things had come up that took
our reversal savings to solve.
So, we waited and prayed and waited some more. We were on
the waiting list of the Blessed Arrows reversal ministry but
from our estimation we would be on there for about 3 years
before it would be our turn! That seemed like such a long
time to wait.
Through different situations the Lord provided funding for
those ladies on the list ahead of us and we suddenly
discovered that we were on the top of the list after about a
year and a half of waiting. Wow! This was really going to
happen after all. We were amazed and oh, so thankful.
We had heard wonderful things about a doctor in Mexico named
Dr. Perez. So, Janel checked him out and talked to Dan. Dan
decided his wife must certainly be crazy if she wanted to go
to Mexico (of all places) to have surgery. That just isn't
done! But, he agreed to think and pray about it.
The Lord lead us to a family who had gone to Mexico and they
offered to send us a video of their surgery. How great! Now,
we could actually see for ourselves what this place was like
and if everything was as clean as we had been told it was.
We watched the video and sure enough everything looked just
like it had been described. We knew that was where we wanted
to go.
We drove from Ohio to Mexico and were blessed with being
able to stay with a few Christian families along the way. We
arrived early on the 25th and the nurse called Dr. Levi and
gave the phone to Janel. We were told that they were
currently in surgery and there was another right after that
one. We were going to have to wait but they WOULD do the
surgery that day. So, we were given a room and some
breakfast while we waited. (Side note: they had the BEST
hospital food we have ever had!)
Dr. Levi came in around 10 and took a medical history, asked
about allergies, and said they were going to try for mid-day
but if they couldn't get Janel in then they would definitely
do the surgery at 7 pm. So, we waited some more.
The nurse came in and got Janel ready for surgery but
couldn't find a vein to put the IV in. Dr. Levi came in to
look as well as Dr. Moreno (anesthesiologist). Dr. Moreno
was the one who finally found a vein and got the IV in.
Janel said she didn't even feel him do it! (Her veins are
VERY hard to find and most nurses can't get her veins on the
first try.) The nurse brought Dan some dinner which he
scarfed down before going into surgery.
After that, she was taken into the OR and Levi put something
in her IV to put her to sleep. She opened her eyes a few
times but never really came all the way awake during the
surgery. She was about half awake (and very funny) towards
the end.
After surgery, we went back to our room and Dr. Levi brought
Janel some dinner. Everything went well and we were very
pleased with the treatment we received there. We wish we
lived closer and could go back to deliver future babies
there. Janel was released the following evening and given
pain medication and antibiotics to take with her.
We didn't have any problems crossing the border in either
direction. We missed the clinic on the first pass but found
it easily on the way back.
